Stockists - what's in it for you?
 Tuesday 24/05/2005
Manufacturers who enter into direct supply contracts with large house builders don't always do so to the benefit of their own stockists.
Generally, the manufacturer will do all the leg-work, negotiate the rates, and seal the deal with the builder. The stockist will then compete for the supply and delivery of stock on site, often operating at unsustainable discount levels imposed by the manufacturer. The larger the builder, the greater the buying-power, and manufacturers desperate to maintain market share in an increasingly competitive environment, will fight tooth and nail to secure the business regardless of the cost to the stockist.
Freefoam Plastics, a leading manufacturer of quality approved lead-free PVC roofline and rainwater systems, takes a different approach. “Partnership is the way forward”, according to company Managing Director, Tony Walsh, who advocates working in close collaboration with existing customers to maximise growth. ”Direct supply agreements can be hugely beneficial to both manufacturer and stockist but only if both parties are represented in the negotiations.”
