Pinking is not a new phenomenon. Everyone within the industry knows that discolouration of white PVC-UE profiles can and does occur. What is new is the renewed attention it’s being given of late.
At the recent Profiles 2001 international conference in Düsseldorf for the plastics building profiles industry, it was reported that approx 5 million Euro was spent in 1999 on the research and development of an alternative to lead stabilisers, and, the European Parliament have committed to phasing out lead stabilisers completely by 2005.
These are just a few examples of the industry taking action against lead. You too should take action, and the sooner the better, if you want to avoid the risk of pinking.
It’s no use manufacturers promising long life for PVC-UE if the colour fails and pinking occurs in 2 to 6 years. You can be sure that any farmer effected by BSE would have gladly paid a bit more for his cattle feed if he only ‘knew then what he knows now’! It’s the same with Pinking. Ask any installer, window fabricator or stockist who has experienced pinking problems. They are paying the price now for using lead-stabilised profiles in the past.
Don’t wait for Pinking to strike. Use lead-free profiles and avoid the risk.
We have compiled a ‘Pinking - The Facts’ information pack available for your reference containing copies of recently published articles on the issue, along with past communications and photographic illustrations of reported pinking cases.
